Woodblock print by Shunbaisai Hokuei made in 1835 depicting the renowned kabuki actor Nakamura Shikan II in the role of Genkurō, a shape-shifting fox (kitsune), from the play Hanayagura hitome senbon. Genkurō, disguised as the loyal samurai Tadanobu has flames (kitsunebi or hitodama) swirlling around him.
